The Princely Fürstenberg Collections offer a diverse insight into the art, culture, and history of the House of Fürstenberg. The exhibition features historical clothing, artworks, and unexpected curiosities. Additionally, contemporary art by well-known artists as well as emerging young artists is showcased. A fascinating interplay of past and present.

Princely Splendor of Bygone Times

Our history is the most important and valuable thing we possess as a family. Unlike many other noble houses, the House of Fürstenberg has never given up its archive or merged it with state institutions. Today, it is one of the most historically significant and valuable archives in Germany. The historical archive building contains records of princely administrations and personal estates. The court library of the House of Fürstenberg is also housed here. It was expanded in 1862 by Prince Karl Egon III into a scientific research facility and made available to the history-interested public. Due to the significance of the archive for historical research, all directors have been recognized expert historians.

Fascinating Natural History Sections

The natural history sections of the Princely Fürstenberg Collections offer a fascinating journey into the animal world of bygone eras. This unique exhibition was created in the 19th century and showcases stuffed animals from various regions of the world. From imposing bears and majestic tigers to colorful paradise birds, the exhibit provides a vivid representation of these animal species. Visitors can also admire mammoth and dinosaur bones, as well as reptiles preserved in spirits.

Modern Art in the Collections

The Princely Fürstenberg Collections are not only custodians of the past but also a place for contemporary art. Under the title “Fürstenberg Contemporary,” young and established artists such as Kai Althoff, Gregor Schneider, and Dirk Bell are showcased. This unique collection creates a link between the tradition of the collections and current artistic expressions. Additionally, the scholarship program at Heiligenberg Castle actively supports contemporary artists, thereby fostering the vibrant art scene of our time.
